Polygami in Zulu ethnic, South AFrica

I am interesting with one of TCTP Participant’s story about polighami in his country, South Africa. he told me about one of ethnic’s tradition in South Africa. The ethnic’s name is Zulu, special for this ethnic, it permit to marry 2 women for man. And the first wife who decide and choose the second wife.

Oh no…!

Do you want to know about the process?

The selecting is occurred when there are traditional dance festival. The women who will be chosen as the second wife usually have special red mark on their forehead. When the candidate of second wife busy with the traditional dance, the first wife choose one of them. In about one week after traditional dance, it’s announced that the man A will marry woman X as his second wife…

Ugghh….

Sometimes, it is not a good news for the candidate, some of them are run away from their home because they don’t want to be the second wife.

So, the tears is not only come from the first wife but also from the second wife candidate.

Two women are feel blue altogether. Hiks…hiks…

I can’t imagine how broken those women feeling when they must choose a woman who will be her husband’s second wife or chosen to be the second wife L

I feel lucky because I was born in Indonesia, so that I must not have a blue experience such as woman in Zulu ethnic in South Africa.

And there is also strange experience and become a bad story for me, it is no problem for them if a man want to marry a married woman.

Hah?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

How come????

Yupzz,

It is no problem as long as the husband agree and he gives a special requirement for the new husband, and the requirement is……

The old husband will permit her wife to be married by new husband but, the new husband must gives 50% from his income to old husband, it’s exclude the expenses for the wife and their children (if any).

So, I’ve got the conclusion that the old husband is “willing to sell his wife to be married by the others men”

Ugghhhhhhhhhhhh..............!

I thought that all of women in the world are really have being independence and emancipated, but from these stories, my perception about women independence in the world is change!

Thanks God, I’m really independence here!
